Rod Halvorsen
Rod HalvorsenRod was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and grew up near Emmons and Kiester, Minnesota. He grew up with the undue hardship of being the only boy in a family with 6 sisters!!

Rod attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis during 1971 & 1972. He graduated in June of 1972 and started with KSUM on October 5, 1972. His first job at KSUM was as night time sign-off man at the transmitter site. "one of my duties was to read broadcast tower base current reading every night after pattern change. This meant walking through a sheep pasture regardless of rain, sleet, snow, wind or what the sheep left behind! Through the magic of remote control, we were able to move downtown in the summer of 1973. In the spring of 1974 I went from sign-off man to sign-on man!!" Rod is now the News Director at KSUM and KFMC.

Rod has been doing sports on KSUM since 1977 and became Sports Director in 1986. "My two biggest thrills have been broadcasting Fairmont's participation in the 1990 State Boys Basketball Tournament and the 1993 State Baseball Tournament. I also assisted Broadcasting Legend Ray Scott once when he came to broadcast a Fairmont Football Game." When not working, Rod enjoys biking, hiking, and reading (he does NOT play golf!!).
