THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL MONDAY APPROVED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO PROPERTY OWNERS IN THE CITY WHO ARE WANTING TO REMOVE BLIGHTED STRUCTURES FROM THEIR PROPERTY. LON LUHMANN REQUESTED HELP FROM THE CITY FOR REMOVAL OF A HOUSE HE PURCHASED AT 515 NORTH PRAIRIE AVENUE. MR. LUHMANN HAS FIXED UP THE GARAGE AND MOVED ELECTRICAL AND GAS FROM THE PROPERTY AND COMPLETED AN ENVIRONMENTAL SURVEY AT HIS OWN COST. HE IS SEEKING ASSISTANCE FROM THE CITY TO REMOVE THE BLIGHTED HOUSE FROM THE NEIGHBORHOOD.
MARTIN COUNTY MECHANICAL /M T D PARTNERS ARE ATTEMPTING TO PURCHASE AND CLEAN UP THE PROPERTY AT 318 NORTH MAIN STREET. THEY ARE REQUESTING ASSISTANCE FOR THE DEMOLITION OF THE HOUSE AND THE GRADING OF THE LOT FOR PARKING. THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF REIMBURSEMENT OF DEMOLITION COSTS FOR THE TWO PROJECTS WILL NOT EXCEED 18,400 DOLLARS. THE CITY HAD SET ASIDE 60,000 DOLLARS TO BEGIN REMOVAL OF BLIGHTED STRUCTURES WITHIN THE CITY. 45,000 DOLLARS CURRENTLY EXISTS IN THE FUND AFTER PARTICIPATION IN REMOVAL OF SIX HOUSING UNITS.
THE FAIRMONT CITY COUNCIL ALSO HEARD A PRESENTATION OF THE ANNUAL UPDATE AND REMINDER ABOUT THE CITY'S ONGOING MUNCIPAL SEPARATE STORM SEWER SYSTEM PERMIT WITH THE M P C A AND THE ASSOCIATED STORM WATER POLLUTION PREVENTION PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS. CITY PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR TROY NEMMERS SAID THE PERMIT MATERIALS WILL BE ON THE CITY'S WEBSITE AND THE MORE EXTENSIVE STORM WATER POLUTION PREVENTION PROGRAM IS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING AT THE FAIRMONT CITY HALL.
