THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL BOARD HAD A MORE PLEASANT TASK ON TUESDAY THAN SOME RECENT BOARD MEETINGS AND WORK SESSIONS AS THEY WERE ABLE TO RESTORE PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS THAT HAD BEEN CUT FROM NEXT THE SCHOOL YEAR FOR LACK OF FUNDING. THE RESTORATION BECAME POSSIBLE AFTER LAST TUESDAY'S OPERATING LEVY REQUEST OF 950 DOLLARS PER STUDENT WAS APPROVED BY SCHOOL DISTRICT VOTERS BY ALMOST A TWO TO ONE MARGIN. THAT POTENTIAL LOSS OF EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE DISTRICT AMOUNTED TO 754,000 DOLLARS AND WOULD HAVE PRETTY MUCH GUTTED EXTRA CURRICULAR AND FINE ARTS ACTIVITIES AND SEVERAL RELATED TEACHING POSITIONS.

THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL BOARD ACCEPTED SEVERAL DONATIONS TO SCHOOL DISTRICT PROGRAMS TUESDAY NIGHT. MC NELIUS TRUCK MANUFACTURING OF DODGE CENTER MINNESOTA DONATED A 1,000 DOLLARS FOR THE PURCHASE OF A NEW WELDING STATION FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL WELDING ACADEMY. CATHY MENSING HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER AT M CNELLIUS TALKED ABOUT COLLABORATION LIKE THIS IS NEEDED ACROSS AMERICA.

CATHY MENSING SAYS HER COMPANY LOOKS FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE FAIRMONT SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE FUTURE.

DAVE KLOECKNER,GENERAL MANAGER AT FAIRMONT FORD, PRESENTED A 135 DOLLAR DONATION TO PAY THE ENTRY FEE FOR THE 2013 FORD/TRIPLE A STUDENT AUTO SKILLS COMPETITION. MR KLOECKNER SAID HE IS GLAD THEY COULD HELP OUT BRING BACK AN OLD TRADITION.

3M DONATED A WIDE LIST OF SUPPLIES TO FAIRMONT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR OFFICE AND CLOSSROOM USE VALUED AT 6,650 DOLLARS. FAIRMONT ELEMENTARY RECEIVED A 1,125 DOLLAR GRANT FROM 3M TO PURCHASE 110 CALCULATORS FOR STUDENTS IN GRADE K-4.
