THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD THURSDAY APPROVED THE PURCHASE OF PROPERTY IN FAIRMONT. COMMISSIONEERS GAVE THE GO AHED TO PURCHASE THE LOT LOCATED AT 117 N. MAIN STREET AS PART OF THE COUNTY'S ONGOING EFFORT TO OBTAIN PROPERTY FOR IMPROVEMENTS AND UNTIL SUCH TIME IN THE FUTURE THAT AN ALTERNATICE USE IS PURSUED BY THE COUNTY. THE COST TO THE COUNTY FOR THAT PIECE OF PROPERTY THAT NOW HOUSES THE LAND SERVICES UNLIMITED REAL ESTATE OFFICE IS 99,000 DOLLARS WAS THE LAST PARCEL THE COUNTY DID NOT OWN IN THAT BLOCK. THE SITE IS MENTIONED AS A POSSIBLE LOCATION FOR A NEW LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER IF THAT OPTION IS NEEDED.

THE MARTIN COUNTY BOARD APPROVED A REMODELING PROJECT FOR THE W I C OFFICES AT THE HUMAN RESOURCES BUILDING. THE PROJECT IS NECESSARY BECAUSE A RECENT AUDIT DETERMINED THE NEED FOR INCREASED PRIVACY FOR CLIENTS. THE ESTIMATED COST FOR THE PROJECT IS 35,757 DOLLARS TO REMODEL THE OFFICE SPACE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. FEDERAL FUNDING IS EXPECTED TO COVER 92 PER CENT OF THE PROJECT COST WITH THE COUNTY'S 8 PER CENT SHARE BEING ABOUT 3,000 DOLLARS.

THE COMMISSIONERS WERE PRESENTED WITH THE TRAVELING TROPHY AWARD AS WINNERS OF THE INTER-COUNTY SALVATION ARMY FOOD DRIVE. THE COMMISSIONERS HAD 382 ITEMS TOTALING 223 POUNDS FOR A TOTAL OF 605 POINTS OR 121 POINT AVERAGE PER COMMISSIONER.
